As part of the European program “ESA CARES: Space Horizons: Bridging the Gap Between Cyprus and the Cosmos”, which aims to educate, inspire, and engage the public in topics related to Astronomy and Space Sciences, our team will present some of its activities, including:
- A solar telescope for sun observation
- Information on activities, competitions, and events
- Interactive activities for all ages
- VR Oculus – space-related experience
- Interactive filming, photography, knowledge-based activities, and games
- A real meteorite presentation

“Indoor Sky Mapping”: A simulation of the night sky using specialized software (requiring audiovisual equipment), with a duration of 25 minutes.
This activity is designed for both children and adults who wish to learn the basics of the night sky, constellations, and the movement of celestial bodies, without the need for outdoor observation. It will also provide insights into scientific tools and applications that can be used for space exploration.
Objectives and Educational Goals
- Introduction to Stellarium software – Participants will become familiar with a free and user-friendly planetarium software that allows for the simulation of the night sky.
- Understanding Basic Concepts of Sky Mapping – Key concepts such as constellations, bright stars, planets, Earth’s movement, and celestial body motion will be presented in a simple and practical way.
- Connection to Greek Mythology and Culture – Highlighting the names and historical-mythological significance of selected constellations (e.g., Orion, Cassiopeia, Ursa Major, etc.).
- Inspiring Interest in Astronomy – Encouraging further engagement with astronomy, either through books and websites or by observing the real night sky at a later time.
